LAPIERRE ZESTY

LAPIERRE ZESTY TEST BIKE

Yesterday our latest test bike showed up ready for its Spoke be

atdown. As you can see it’s something totally new to New Zealand and that is the Lapierre brand. Our Zesty 314 test bike is part of a small shipment that has shown up prior to the main range of bikes, so don’t go rushing into stores just yet (you can email Lapierre here to find out who will be stocking them and when). Anyhow the 140mm travel Zesty is one of Lapierre’s two all round trail bikes, the 160mm travelSpicy is the other. The Zesty comes in five models ranging from the full carbon blinged out 914model, down to the 214, we have the second from the bottom model the 314.

Not that it means much, but this bike is the first test bike we have ever reviewed that we didn't have to move the brakes on. It's the small things. Like those 680mm bars, they will have to go!

Much like the Specialized Pitch we reviewed recently, essentially you’re getting the same frame as on the higher models with a slightly more thrifty build, surprisingly though the Zesty 314 build kit is reasonably sound. It’s getting its first ride today so until then we can’t really tell you much more about it, other that we are pretty dam excited to get this bike out on the trail and to finally see Lapierre bikes available in New Zealand.

The Zesty features some pretty swanky little details, like this fool proof sag seat up indicator on the rear shock...

...and some very tidy cable routing.

Washing instructions? Do not eat? Hey, at least the Frenchys have a sense of humour. They also know that putting ISCG tabs on a 140mm bike is an awesome move, making it super easy to 1x10 with a good guide (like the MRP Lopes). Unfortunately there is no dropper post cable routing.

More cool details like this carbon rear mech protector show that that Lapierre have thought everything through (except the seatpost).

The only thing we are really questioning on the 314 build is the spec'ing of QR forks. The next model up (the 514) does feature 15mm QR forks, oh yeah, those are bladed spokes attached to Fulcrum wheels.

Fatties fit, plenty of room out back, and some nice cable routing for the rear brakes.
